 Giving the Gift of Warmth:
McKenzie Electric’s 2nd Annual Blanket Drive

As we near the season of giving, McKenzie Electric Cooperative (MEC) is excited to announce the return of our annual blanket drive for the elders in our service area. With the chill of winter approaching, we’re committed to delivering warmth and comfort during the cold months ahead in more ways than providing reliable electricity.

From November through the end of December, MEC will be accepting blanket donations, with an anticipated delivery date in January. As blankets are donated, our co-op employees will carefully sort and organize them, ensuring that each resident receives a gift of warmth.

Last year, thanks to the generosity of our members, employees, supportive businesses, and the communities we serve, over 180 blankets were successfully donated to local facilities including the Good Shepherd Home and Horizon Assisted Living in Watford City, the Hill Top Home of Comfort and Legacy Lodge Assisted Living in Killdeer, and the Golden Valley Manor in Beach.

This year, our mission remains unchanged, and our goal is as powerful as ever: to collect blankets and bring a sense of coziness and joy to those who need it the most. The elderly often face the cold season with aching bones and a longing for warmth. While a blanket provides physical comfort, it also serves as a reminder to our elders that they are cherished and valued members of our society.

Nearly 80 years ago, members of our community came together to form McKenzie Electric, bringing power to the rural areas we call home. To honor that spirit and the power of coming together, MEC encourages you to donate to this year’s blanket drive to show how acts of kindness, no matter how small, can bring immense comfort and joy to those in need.

Donations of blankets or monetary contributions can be dropped off at
MEC headquarters (3817 23rd Ave. NE, Watford City).
