McKenzie Electric Cooperative Inc.’s Board of Directors is pleased to announce their decision to pass through a bill credit to the membership. MEC received a credit in December from our wholesale power supplier, Basin Electric Power Cooperative. Basin Electric has stated the issuance of the credit is due to their higher-than-expected margin in 2022.
Member bill credits will be determined from billed meter usage (kWh) from January through November 2022. Please refer to the current service detail on your statement (as pictured below) to view your credit information. The current service detail below is an example of what a member with a standard residential service and an electric heat meter will see.

McKenzie Electric Cooperative is dedicated to improving the quality of life of its member-owners by offering safe, reliable, and affordable electricity. It is our hope this credit shows MEC’s ongoing commitment to maintaining a culture of trust and demonstrates the cooperative difference.
Bill Credit FAQ
In order to receive this credit, members must simply have consumed power between the timeframe of January - November 2022.
If you're receiving this credit, your credit will be under the current service detail of your bill (the section pictured above). Since this credit is based upon energy consumption, certain meters will have larger credits than others even if they share the same rate class. This means members with multiple meters may have credits for each meter.
Each year, MEC conducts a cost-of-service study to establish rates that are fair and equitable throughout the entire membership. This study includes a breakdown of purchase power expense by rate class. The percentages from the study were used to allocate the credit by rate class.
No, only registered McKenzie Electric members will be receiving this credit. In this case, your landlord will receive the credit. Any questions you may have on how this credit will be passed on to the renter should be addressed with your landlord.
